Vaike Shawl Yarn Kit
Another fabulous design by Isabell Kraemer....the stunning Vaike Shawl.
the name Vaike comes from Estonian vaikne and means “calm” and “silence”, which seemed the perfect name for the mediative effect that you get when knitting the rhythmic pattern of this shawl … keep calm and enjoy the silence ;)
Vaike is worked from the narrow point of the left edge. Stitches are increased every RS row in the cable pattern and then onward into the Stockinette stitch section. A cute 3 x 1 ribbing is worked last. The combination of cables, stockinette and ribbing give this shawl a sophisticated yet casual look.
Yarn
5 x skeins mYak Baby Yak Lace (350m / 383 yds per 50g) in the colour Oatmeal. Yarn is held double throughout.
Finished measurements
80” (203 cm) wingspan, 48.5” (123 cm) wide at full side of right edge.
Gauge
22.5 sts x 30 rows = 4” (10 cm) in cable pattern after blocking.
18 sts x 30 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch after blocking.
Gauge is not crucial for this project but will affect yardage and final size when different.
Needles
US 3 (3.25 mm) circular needle, 40” (100 cm) long for ribbing
US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle, 40” (100 cm) long or size needed to get gauge.
Notions
