V-Neck Chokki by Noriko Ichikawa mYak Baby Yak Medium Yarn Kit
The ‘V-neck Chokki’ is a relaxed-fit drop shoulder vest worked from the top down. I incorporated a compact, shallow V-neck and a relaxed silhouette. The term ‘Chokki’ means ‘vest’ in Japanese and has a retro vibe.
To start, the back shoulder is worked, with short-row shoulder shaping, to the underarm. Stitches for the front are picked up from the back shoulders, and both of the fronts are worked flat while shaping the neck, and joined to the back at the underarm, to be worked seamlessly to the hem. The armhole borders are worked from stitches picked up around the armholes and worked in the round in ribbing. Finally, stitches are picked up along the fronts and neck and the 1x1 rib button band is worked as you go. (the sample pictured used the champagne cardigan button band by petiteknit).
You can choose from three types of buttonholes, and the body length can be adjusted to your preference (note that this may affect the required yarn amount and number of buttons needed).
Designed for versatility, you can wear your V-Neck Chokki unbuttoned over a T-shirt or buttoned up under a coat like a suit vest. It’s a practical addition to any wardrobe.
