Karelia by Midori Yarn Kit
You too can knit your very own Kariela. You can choose the same colours as Midori's version, choose from one of the eight sample colours pictured above or choose your own colours.
The Karelia pattern is Midori's second collaboration with Kokon Yarn. The flower motif is worked as a weaving between the stitches while knitting and is a traditional Estonian technique called “Roosimine”, which means Rose in Estonian language. The pattern made with this technique is called “Roositud”. The traditional Estonian Roositud patterns have quite geometrical form and are worked in a set of bright primary colours.
Midori has designed her own flower Roositud. Traditionally it’s used with very tight gauge knitting such as mittens, gloves or socks. Intentionally Midori has worked it in a very loose tension with chunky mohair. It gives the motif a 3-dimensional look.
The pattern is worked seamlessly from the top down.
